For over 15 years, Eagles Nest Association of Waterdown has been impacting lives in Waterdown, Burlington and Hamilton. Drummond House, the first project Eagles Nest started, was a transitional home for women and children who found themselves in difficult situations. In the fall of 2019, they closed their doors due to the lease not being renewed. While this was not a planned event, the team at Eagles Nest continues to see how God is working behind the scenes with some exciting and new plans for this wonderful organization.
Back in 2017, before knowing that Drummond House was going to close, Eagles Nest opened the doors to the new HOPE Centre (Home of Practical Education), a supportive environment where people are equipped to build positive change for a healthier future. Their focus is on building self-worth, cultivating healthy relationships and navigating through trauma and difficult circumstances. While they primarily work with women and children, their services are starting to expand to support men and youth, as the team recognize the value of working with the whole family.
What services does the HOPE Centre offer?
Many of the support programs are preventative programs that encourage healthy people and families:
- Counselling
- Coaching
- Support Groups
- Boundaries Course
- Parenting Workshops
- HEART program (Healing Emotional Abuse through Art) and Emoji Club: designed for children to encourage them to identify emotions, and how to communicate how they feel.
The reach of Eagles Nest has expanded to not only support those in crisis, but also to those who are at risk and beyond.
The HOPE Centre Staff
One 8 year old girl recently shared with me that she loves coming each week to the Centre because I listen, and it makes her happy. Everyone needs a safe place where someone listens and cares – HOPE Centre is becoming that place for community – Amanda DeVries, Executive Director

Rescued and Restored
Did you know that over 10 years ago Eagles Nest opened a re-use Centre in Freelton to financially support their ministry? This 6,000 square foot showroom sells gently used furniture, housewares, clothing, books and more that have been donated by the community.
How Can I Get Involved?
Coldest Night of the Year: This is a fundraiser walk for all ages! For the 3rd year in a row, Eagles Nest is hosting the walk in Waterdown. It’s a great way to give back as a family or with your small group.
Sign up to walk 2km, 5km, or 10km and give a few hours of your night to make a lifelong impact on families in the community.
Become a Volunteer: There are currently over 60 volunteers who give back their time and share their skills. Eagles Nest is currently looking for professional volunteers (counsellors and coaches) to work with clients at the HOPE Centre, as well as volunteers who can help sort, organize or move items at Rescued & Restored.
Give Financially – To continue to meet the needs of our community and keep services accessible, Eagles Nest relies on individuals who believe in what they are doing and commit to giving back.
