Serving the Community During a Pandemic
with Next Door Social Space
Kitchen Update
At Next Door Kitchen, we have been busy providing soup to our community friends. Although we are currently unable to host our friends in person, every week 2-3 groups of volunteers come together and cook up nutritious food. We are dependent upon a combination of food and grocery gift cards donations to make our soups. We prepare over 300 containers of soup/stews weekly that go to support the Compass Point Food Market bi-weekly and to Wellington Square Church weekly.
One of my Friday teams who make the Compass Point Soups are Compass Point (CP) members Dawn Crichton and Jane Smith, who faithfully provide the recipe and all the ingredients, as well as making the soup. It has aslso been a pleasure working with Compass Point Food Market Director Kathleen Day who also picks up our soups and shares specific food items for our soups as they become available.
Once our soups/stews are prepared, they are (along with other food items) delivered with love into the hands of community members – friends we know and many we don’t.
Bike Shop Updates
Individual and pairs of volunteers have been busy in January over on the bike shop side renovating and preparing the space for reopening. Not only does the shop look better, it will allow for improved customer flow and spacing for volunteers.
Prayer Items
Next Door is thrilled to announce and anticipate building an outdoor patio where they can safely welcome a small number of guests to sit and enjoy a coffee and food come late spring. Please continue to pray that details come together.
