Who is 541 Eatery & Exchange?
541 Eatery & Exchange is a non-profit pay-it-forward cafe working to help our neighbours overcome the impacts of isolation, poverty, and injustice by cultivating a community of mutuality in our neighbourhood.

Over a decade ago, a group of passionate individuals from Compass Point saw both a need and an opportunity.  In Hamilton’s north end, it was difficult to access nutritious food; there was a high prevalence of homelessness; and a tremendous need for a safe and inclusive community.  At the same time, 541 Barton Street was available for lease and the neighbourhood was starting to see an influx of new businesspeople.  They imagined a place that could gather those from different socioeconomic realities around a common table to share good food, exchange ideas, and build community.  

What will the money be used for?
Donations will be used to support the shifting needs of clients and opportunities in 541’s neighbourhood. The local 541 leadership will discern the greatest areas of need and opportunity.
