What Are Community Groups?

At Compass Point, we believe that Aligning Lives to the Way of Jesus is a process that happens best in community. We also believe that church is more than an hour or two on Sunday mornings. It’s about sharing our lives together – supporting each other in practical ways, engaging in spiritual practices together, and serving our neighbours.

Compass Point Community Groups are opportunities during the week that create space for us to welcome and respond to Jesus together.

Community Groups Q & A

What exactly is a Compass Point Community Group?

At Compass Point, we believe that Aligning Lives to the Way of Jesus happens best in the context of community. With this in mind, Compass Point Community Groups are primarily about gatherings partners for the journey of apprenticeship to Jesus and his way of life.

CP Community groups prioritize eating together, praying for each other, having honest conversation, and supporting each other in practical ways. CP Community Groups  also engage regularly together in practices and rhythms from the lifestyle of Jesus (think: prayer, fasting, scripture, or service) that transform us to become more and more aligned to the Way of Jesus.

How often do CP Community Groups meet and how long do they last?

Every CP Community Group’s schedule is different. Ideally, groups meet weekly, but many groups meet bi-weekly or on some other rotation. Developing a healthy community that’s learned to care for one another, share honestly with one another, and grow in their apprenticeship to Jesus together takes time.

For most healthy groups, this journey will last at least a year.

How do I join a CP Community Group?

The best way to join a CP Community Group is to fill out a connection card at the Connection Centre on a Sunday or to contact Pastor of Spiritual Formation, Chris Heise, who can suggest a group or two that might be a good fit for you. For reference, a list of CP Community Groups is available on our website.

You’re welcome to inquire about specific groups or talk to CP Community Group leaders you may already know.

Who should consider joining a CP Community Group?

Anyone who wants to align their life with the Way of Jesus and is open to sharing in that journey with a small community of others who want the same thing.

You don’t have to have been in a small group or Community Group before and you don’t have to have your life, or your faith, totally figured out to join in.

How do I know which Community Group is right for me?

CP Community Groups are like family – they’re made up of diverse people with diverse backgrounds, personalities, and experiences. This will almost always lead to challenges but it’s also what makes life together so rich and transformative. With that in mind, you’re welcome to explore a few different groups before you commit as way to find the best fit for you.

What if I’m interested in starting a new CP Community Group?

We have a growing network of dedicated and compassionate Community Group leaders that meet together a few times a year and work to make their Community Groups spaces where deep relationships and transformation can take place.

If you’re interested in facilitating a group, we’d love to chat.
