Stand Firm
“Brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.”
Thessalonians 2:15
Every day is a decision. Will we continue to go down the road to recovery God’s way, or will we choose to go our own way? If we’ve experienced any change, any growth, any freedom from our hurts hang-ups and habits, we know that the power to change comes from God alone. But every day we must decide again if we will keep trusting God, living the truth found in recovery, or turn back to our old ways.
When we are tempted to go the wrong way, we must stand firm and keep trusting God. We should never give up one inch of ground. Why would we want to waste the struggle it took to get there? If we turn back, we lose almost everything we have gained.
The power to change comes from God. In order to grow and keep on growing we need to focus on Him. We must never turn back and begin to walk by our own power. It is so tempting to try and go our own way, to do it on our own, to think we have it from here, but stand firm.
I spent many years trying to do things on my own, in my own power, in my own strength. It wasn’t until I ‘let go and let God” that I saw changes slowly happening in myself. I needed to hold fast to the promises that God had made to me in His Word and know that I was worthy enough to receive those promises despite the mistakes I had made in my past or the mistakes that I will make in my future.
Every day, I needed to make that decision to turn my life and my will over to God; to listen to what He wanted me to do and be obedient in doing it, no matter how tired, how hurt, or how much I really wanted to succumb to my earthly desires.
